The Divine Dialogue
“I have divided the prayer between Myself and My servant into two halves, and My servant shall have what he has asked for.”
— Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 395
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
“In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.”
Bismillahi-r-Rahmani-r-Rahim
Pre-entry portal to revelation. Sets ontological tone: Mercy precedes command.
ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
“[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds”
Alhamdulillahi Rabbil-'Alamin
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
“The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful”
Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim
مَـٰلِكِ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ
“Sovereign of the Day of Recompense”
Maliki Yawmid-Din
إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ
“It is You we worship and You we ask for help”
Iyyaka na'budu wa iyyaka nasta'in
ٱهْدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ
“Guide us to the straight path”
Ihdinas-Siratal-Mustaqim
صِرَٰطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ ٱلْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
“The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray”
